Go Away Pesticides !

Ridding fruit & Veg of harmful chemical pesticides naturally

Buying everything organic is not affordable and for most families an unrealistic option.
I am selective if I cannot get everythjng I want when I go out to but my veg & fruit and I always buy organic cabbage, lettuce, carrots and never compromise on these as they are notorious for having heavy pestcides if they are NOT organic. I try to stick to this rule and buying seasonal food.  If I buy local produce e.g. my root vegetables, I will usually buy local produce so I get the advantage of the nutrients earlier and avoid a heavy carbon foot print.

It’s not possible for everyone to do the same as our circumstances and financial situations will differ. I try to consider my environment buying grains and flours from local health food shops rather than large supermarkets.  I think by doing this I do my bit for their offer as its not possible in London to get theselocally produced.   I also favour ethically sourced goods if they come from abroad.

I know that many people would like to buy organic these days, but it can be hard to afford and each Families budget will determine how to prioritise any organic lifestyle or when buying fruits and vegetables.  The organic selection at a lot grocerys can be limiting at certain times of the year or dependant upon which part of the UK or country you are in, but being conscious of your food is a way of life for helping mother earth on so many levels.

Knowing how to reduce or remove some of the pesticides that coat the outsides naturally can be done easily using natural ingredients that most of us have in our cupboard or fridge and knowing how to make it up is simplier than you may imagine.  Here’s how:

A natural way to remove pesticides from fruits & vegetables!

Homemade Pesticide removal solution

Use 1 part vinegar and 4 parts water.
Let your fruits/vegetables soak in a bowl or sink for about an hour (non-organic apples can soak for an additional 30 minutes to an hour).  Remove the produce from the mixture, give them another quick rinse with water, and they are ready to eat!

You’ll Be surprised to see the water after soaking and the film on the surface of the water
This mixture also helps to extend the life of your fruits and vegetables so that they last longer without spoiling.

Why not make an everyday SPRAY

1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons baking soda
1 cup water
Mix the ingredients until the baking soda has dissolved, and pour into a clean spray bottle.  I use filtered water for mine as it lasts longer. Spray your fruits and vegetables and leave for 5-10 minutes.  Rinse off, and enjoy your rainbow food!

Let me know if this was helpful. Feel free to leave me a comment.  Happy Eating!
